2015: Urban regeneration of Doha’s historic centre: In collaboration with Makower Architects:

· Client: Ministry of Municipality and Environment (Qatar)

· Background: the city centre of Doha is decaying due to high land prices and a subsequent lack of investment. The local urban planning office commissioned Makower Architects to develop a new master plan in order to revitalise two main districts. This revitalisation planning included both a detailed zoning plan with building regulations and urban design concepts.


2010 - 2011: Urban transformation in Munich: Development parameters for an international urban design competition. At Albert Speer + Partner.

· Client: Accumulata and Munich’s urban planning authority.

· Background: due to a growing lack of affordable housing in Munich, a large former industrial area (6 hectares) needed to be studied for potential residential developments. The main focus of this study was the establishment of high urban densities (1,100 housing units). Various urban design studies to identify the key parameters (e. g. GFA, building regulations, open space) for an international urban design competition. The urban design studies needed to follow the official regulations including government programmes aimed at integrating affordable housing and social infrastructure. The main challenges were noise due to traffic and the large quantity of housing units as well as the integration of offices and services.

· Following the identified urban design parameters, the architects Von Ballmoos Krucker won the international urban design competition:


2011: Siemens Headquarters Urban Design Competition: development parameters for an international urban design competition. At Albert Speer + Partner.

· Client: Siemens AG; GFA: 45,000 sq. m.

· Background: Siemens AG decided to move 1,200 employees to its new headquarters in Munich. AS+P was commissioned by Siemens to mediate between the urban planning authorities and various needs regarding the new office space. The negotiated development parameters became the basis for an international urban design competition. Various urban design studies, particularly focused on how building typologies and heights would impact Munich’s historic city centre.

· Henning Larsen Architects won the international urban design competition based on the prescribed urban design parameters:


2009 - 2011: Conceptual Master Plan for the Central Spine and CBD of 6th of October City: At Albert Speer + Partner:

· Client: Ministry of Housing Egypt.

· Background: due to increasing urban growth along Cairo’s periphery the Ministry of Housing initiated the strategy to expand existing satellite cities. Thus, AS+P was commissioned to develop a macro vision and plan for a large extension of 6th of October City (100 sq. km; 600,000 inhabitants). The overall plan included the conceptual master plan for the new city centre (400 hectares). The planning efforts are mainly rooted in a transit-oriented approach integrating a metro and tram lines. In addition, various smart city technologies have been introduced.
